France earned a winning start against Australia

  A VAR – assisted penalty from Griezmann and a late Paul pogba goal helped France to secure a deserved 2-1 victory over Australia. Antoine Griezmann scored the first ever penalty given by VAR in World Cup history as France edged past Australia 2-1 in their Group C opener. France were far from their best at the Kazan Arena, with their best attacking trio of Griezmann, Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele unable to ignite against a tenacious Australian outfit. After a disjointed first half of action, the game glittered to life shortly after the break as referee Andres Cunha awarded a penalty to France after consulting VAR and deciding that Josh Risdon had clipped Griezmann just in the area. The Atletico Madrid striker’s ferocious spot kick was cancelled out just four minutes later by another penalty, Aston Villa midfielder Mile Jidenak slotting home after Samuel Umtiti handled in the area. It’s another exciting atmosphere in Russia as Egypt take on Uruguay in a group A encounter. Uruguay dominated possession in the first 3 minutes of the opening stage of the first half. Russia ease past Saudi Arabia in the opening match of the world cup

Welcome to the 2018 FIFA world cup in Russia. The kick-off to the world prestigious football tournament is under way with the host Russia facing Saudi Arabia in an opening encounter of the tournament. Both team started brightly, YASIR ALSHAHRANI (Saudi Arabia) forced KUTEPOV (Russia) to a brilliant save in the first 10 minutes of opening into the first half. A corner conceded by Saudi Arabia defender MOHAMMED ALBURAYK, the corner saw YURI GAZINSKY (Russia) header from the right side of the six yard box to the bottom left corner at 15 minutes of the first half.
