Spanish prosecutors recommended that Neymar was handed a two-year prison sentence for alleged irregularities surrounding his transfer to Barcelona.

The judge in Spain has accepted allegations of corruption against Brazil captain earlier this month, while Neymar accused, together with others, concealing part of the costs of moving from Santos to the Nou Camp in 2013.

As a prison sentence, prosecutors also called for a 24-year-old will be fined € 10m (£ 8.6).

They seek the same penalty for Neymar's father, also a former club president Sandro Rosell, who is facing an additional three years for the cost of fraud.

Prosecutors asked for a fine of € 8.4m (£ 7.2m) for the club, but has called the accusations against the current Josep Maria Bartomeu be dropped.

The complaint was made Brazilian investment group DIS which is owned 40 percent of the rights transfer Neymar has already said that it has received less money than it would have when he moved to Barcelona, as part of the consideration for the transfer was hidden.

Rosell resigned as president of the club in 2014 for his role in the affair and testified in court in February with Bartomeu, Neymar and Neymar's father.

The club reached an agreement with prosecutors in June to solve a special case and paid € 5.5m (£ 4.89m) fine and avoid trial on charges of tax evasion through transfer. In this agreement, the club admitted that he made a "mistake in the fiscal planning of the player's transfer."

Barcelona thought they had brought the affair to end when Judge Jose de la Mata archived subject in June, but the public prosecutor Spaniard successfully overturned the verdict in September, which is the case to continue.

Neymar's Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi was sentenced to 21 months in prison for tax fraud earlier this year. He appealed against the verdict.
